Deal Or No Deal?
General Santos City, Philippines - Back home in Canada we ate out every week. But after moving here (read here) I almost never ate out as my wallet always says nL. I just sold something and happened to chance on the MetroDeal Congo Grille voucher. I told myself, I need to treat my wife and I. I grabbed it. Yes! We’re going out on a dinner date ♥ No cooking and dishes to do J
The voucher was worth P300 (yeah I know it was P299 - that is P300 in my mind) for P500 worth of food. That was 40% off your total bill.
Back home when they offered vouchers for anything it was a minimum of 50% off. It would sometimes even be 90% off. But I still thought it was a good way of trying out a restaurant as I’ve never eaten at Congo Grille.
We went to the Congo Grille SM General Santos Branch. We ordered Congo Spicy Fried Chicken, Beef Kare Kare, Laing, two plain rice and bottomless iced tea.
We waited for about twenty minutes for the food to be
served. Pretty fast!
For the Congo Spicy Fried Chicken, they served four pieces
of chicken. A piece each of drumstick,
breast, thigh and wing. For P225 ($5.60
CAN) I thought I was going to get a whole chicken! It tasted good as fried chicken goes and was
very crispy, but it wasn't spicy at all.
The Beef Kare Kare at P260 ($6.50 CAN) came in a small bowl with a lot
of sauce, small amount of veggies and six beef cubes in stew cut pieces. Five were kinda rubbery but one piece was
tender. The best of the three dishes was
the Laing at P95. The coconut was really
creamy. I just had to spicen it up a bit
more with hot peppers and it was perfect.
Total bill was P701 (about $18 CAN) + tip (ouch!). Yes, I did save P200 by getting the voucher,
but was the food worth P701? You be the
judge.
